Fire Damage Restoration Process

Every fire damage situation is different and can vary from the amount of structural damage to the contents affected by smoke and soot. No loss is ever the same. Each unique scenario will require a unique solution.

The basic fundamental steps for the fire restoration process are:

Step # 1: Request Emergency Assistance

Contact Thomas Quality Construction first for claim assistance and a fast emergency response to your home or business. Then, contact your insurance company, if possible, and notify them of the situation and request to set up a claim. They will provide you with a claim number and adjuster. Please keep this information handy to give to our technicians.

Step # 2: Inspection & Damage Assessment

Our highly trained technicians will assess the extent of the fire, smoke and soot damages. A detailed inspection and damage assessment of your property will be performed to determine the scope of work and required plan of action, while also looking for any potential hazards. The inspection will start with the integrity of the structure to assure that the structure is sound and safe. This determines how we handle the restoration. We will remove all belongings and furniture to prevent further damage to them and the property.

Step # 3: Emergency Board-up and Tarping services as needed

In most fire loss claims, the fire penetrates the roof, windows and doors. If the fire doesn't penetrate the roof, windows and doors, the emergency responders usually do in efforts to gain access to the property in order to put the fire out. We will board up those areas penetrated and tarp the roof in an effort to keep your property dry and secure.

Step # 4: Water Extraction/Removal & Drying

In 98% of fire losses there is some form of water damage resulting from the fire department’s efforts to extinguish the fire itself. Therefore, we must start by removing this water. Our highly trained technicians remove the majority of excess water using industrial grade wet vacuums, truck mounted power vacuum units and even submersible pumps, if needed. This intricate process helps reduce the overall drying time and also helps in preventing secondary water damage and mold or bacterial growth.

Once the majority of the excess water is removed, it is time to start setting the industrial grade dehumidifiers and high speed air movers in the affected areas. These units create airflow across the building material surfaces in an effort to accelerate the evaporation of the remaining moisture.

During this process, our highly trained professionals will use monitoring equipment to periodically check and monitor the progress of the removal of the retained water in the porous building materials to an acceptable level of moisture content. If the building materials retain water, it could cause the materials to warp and break down or cause mold damage.

Step # 5: Fire, Smoke & Soot Removal from building materials

The fire itself is not usually the biggest cause of damage. The biggest cause is usually the smoke and soot that result from the fire. Smoke and soot can penetrate the vast majority of the home and cause damage that is difficult to eliminate. Our highly skilled technicians are trained and armed with special equipment to eliminate the smoke and soot damage.

Step # 6: Cleaning, deodorization and Sanitizing

Once all of the non-salvageable building materials are gone, your restorable property will need to be professionally cleaned from top to bottom by our restoration professionals to eliminate damages and prep properly for restoration.

Once everything is clean, we will perform sanitizing treatments using antimicrobial and antibacterial treatments, as well as disinfectant, as needed. Lastly, we eliminate any of the persistent and offensive odors, if present, using fogging equipment and air scrubbers.

Step # 7: Restoration

The final step in the intricate process of recovery from fire damage is the restoration of the property.
