Water Damage Restoration Process

Every water disaster situation is different and can vary from the amount of water present to the contents affected and even down to the level of contamination of the water. No loss is ever the same. Each unique scenario will require a unique solution.

The basic fundamental steps for the water restoration process are:

Step # 1: Request Emergency Assistance

Contact Thomas Quality Construction first for claim assistance and a fast emergency response to your home or business. Then, contact your insurance company, if possible, and notify them of the situation and request to set up a claim. They will provide you with a claim number and adjuster. Please keep this information handy to give to our technicians.

Step # 2: Inspection &  Damage Assessment

Our highly trained technicians will identify the source of the water leak and terminate it. Then, we will do a detailed inspection and damage assessment of your property to determine the scope of work and required plan of action while also looking for any potential hazards. Once these items are completed, we will determine the type of water: Category #1 - clean water; Category #2 – gray water; Category #3 – black water.

This process determines how we handle the extraction of the water. We will remove all belongings and furniture to prevent further damage to them and the property.

Step # 3: Water Extraction/Removal

Our highly trained technicians remove the majority of excess water using industrial grade wet vacuums, truck mounted power vacuum units and even submersible pumps if needed. This intricate process helps reduce the overall drying time and also helps in preventing secondary water damage and mold or bacterial growth.

Step # 4: Drying and Dehumidification

Once the majority of the excess water is removed, it is time to start setting the industrial grade dehumidifiers and high speed air movers in the affected areas. These units create airflow across the building surfaces in effort to accelerate the evaporation of the remaining moisture.

During this process, our highly trained professionals will use monitoring equipment to periodically check the progress of the removal of the retained water in the porous building materials to an acceptable level of moisture content. If the building materials retain water, it could cause the materials to warp and break down or cause mold damage.

Step # 5: Cleaning, deodorization and Sanitizing

Once all of the water is gone, your property will need to be professionally cleaned from top to bottom by our restoration professionals. Once everything is clean, we will perform sanitizing treatments using antimicrobial and antibacterial treatments, as well as disinfectant, as needed. Lastly, we eliminate any of the persistent and offensive odors, if present, using fogging equipment and air scrubbers.

Step # 6: Restoration

The final step in the intricate process of recovery from water damage is the restoration of the property.
